NEWTOWN, Pa. - The Middle Atlantic Conference office today released all-conference lists and special awards for Baseball. Four Eagles -
Luke Meehan,
Matthew Gonglik,
Thomas Kozlusky, and
Roy Corso - earned All-MAC Commonwealth Second Team Honors.
Meehan, a junior from Allentown, had one of the best individual seasons for an Eastern baseball player in recent memory, earning All-MAC Second Team honors as a utility player. He finished the season with 62 hits, the second-most in a single season in program history. Only Angelo Kelly, who had 66 hits in 2016, has recorded more knocks in one season. Meehan also led the Eagles with a .400 batting average, a 1.025 OPS, 14 doubles, 35 RBIs, and a .574 slugging percentage. He was tied for third with three home runs and 26 runs scored. He struck out only 11 times in Eastern's 39 games.
In the league, Meehan was second in hits, third in batting average, fourth in doubles, seventh in both OPS and slugging percentage, and eighth in RBIs. He recorded hits in all but seven games, and had a 19-game hitting streak from March 7 to April 4. He collected a career-high four hits against Muhlenberg on March 1 and Albright on March 28, and hit a career-high three doubles against Albright, also on March 28. He also recorded three hits and a career-best four RBIs against Penn State Berks on April 1. Meehan played an excellent first base as well as all three positions in the outfield.Â
Gonglik, a sophomore from Langhorne, earned his first All-MAC honor after a strong season at third base. Gonglik was first on the Eagles with a .497 on-base percentage, drawing a team-high 28 walks. He was second on the team with a .339 batting average and 29 RBIs, and was tied for second with 28 runs scored and nine doubles. He finished third with 37 hits and a .523 slugging percentage, and was tied for third with three home runs. In the league, Gonglik ranked third in walks, fifth in on-base percentage, and eighth in OPS.
The sophomore recorded hits in 26 of Eastern's 39 games, and he had 10 multi-hit games. He finished with a career-best three hits against Swarthmore on Feb. 25, and also finished with a pair of doubles against Swarthmore on Feb. 25 and Widener on March 15. He scored a career-high four runs against Valley Forge on March 5, and drove in a career-best six RBIs against PSU Berks on April 1.
Kozlusky, a junior from Quakertown, earned his first All-MAC Honor after a solid season in left field. He led the Eagles with 35 runs scored and was tied for first with three triples. He was tied with teammate
Trent MacDougall with 13 stolen bases, and was second on the team with 42 hits. He was also a solid batter all season long, batting .321 over the course of the season.
In the league, Kozlusky ranked tied for sixth in triples, seventh in runs scored, and tied for eighth in stolen bases. He finished with three hits in games against Swarthmore on Feb. 25, Valley Forge on March 5, and in both games against York on March 22. He hit a career-best two triples against Valley Forge on March 5, and a hit a home run against York at Villanova Ballpark. He also recorded a season-high three RBIs against Hood on April 12.
Corso, a graduate student from Paramus, N.J., was Eastern's final All-MAC Second Team selection as a relief pitcher. Corso had an excellent season on the bump, finishing with a 2-0 record and a pair of saves. He had a team-best 2.48 ERA in 29 innings pitched, giving up just 18 hits and eight earned runs and allowing batters to hit just .182 against him. His 18 strikeouts were tied for the third-most on the Eastern pitching staff, following
Graham Adams and
Brennan Moloughney.
In his win over Rosemont, Corso struck out a career-high five batters. He also earned a win against Marywood, giving up just one hit in 3.2 innings. He recorded saves against Hood on April 12 and in his final appearance against Stevenson in Plymouth Meeting on April 27. In 16 appearances over two years with the Eagles, Corso finished with a 4-0 record and a 2.43 ERA with 24 strikeouts.
