Pitching, Defense Leads Baseball to Season Sweep of Stevenson

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. - Eastern Baseball ended its 2025 season on a high note on Sunday, sweeping the Stevenson Mustangs in its final conference series with 4-3 and 2-1 victories at Villanova Ballpark. Eastern's pitching was phenomenal in both contests, and the defense was equally as remarkable as both played a key role in Eastern's victories.

In the opener, sophomore Graham Adams (4-3) put together another quality start, giving up just five hits and one early run with a pair of strikeouts in his fourth win of the year. He, together with fellow sophomore southpaw Brennan Moloughney, combined for eight wins this season. First-year Chris Humphreys followed with two strong innings, recording his second save of the season in Eastern's 4-2 game one win.

In the nightcap, first-year Brady Bollman threw one of his best outings of his young career to date. The Landenburg native gave up just three hits and one run, escaped two bases-loaded jams, and finished with three strikeouts to keep the game close early. Senior Liam O'Connor (1-0) pitched a clean fifth inning and recorded the first win of his career in his final outing. Gavin Mikulski followed with two scoreless frames, allowing just one hit.

Finally, Roy Corso earned his second save of the season, pitching two scoreless innings to secure the sweep for Eastern. Corso was tremendous for the Eagles in his final season, recording a team low 2.48 ERA in 29 innings pitched to go along with his two wins and saves.

Eastern's defense was impeccable throughout the contest. In both games, the Eagles finished with a combined four pickoffs and two double plays, and made crucial plays in key moments. In game one, Brock Langlotz laid out for a ball in left field to keep the tying run from scoring. The Eagles went on to score their third run in the bottom half of the frame. On a wild pitch in the seventh inning of game two, Mikulski covered home plate brilliantly, tagging out Stevenson's Michael McGarry to end the inning. In the eighth, on a Stevenson single through the left side, Meehan threw out Garrett Sears at home for the final out to keep the Eagles ahead 2-1.

Eastern took an early lead in game one of the doubleheader, plating a pair in the first inning. After Trent MacDougall led of the game with a double, a sacrifice bunt from Jaden Taylor and a subsequent throwing error allowed MacDougall to score. Meehan then delivered his 61st hit of the season, an RBI single to right center field, putting the Eagles ahead 2-0.

After Langlotz's heroics in the top of the fourth, the Eagles pushed another run across in the home half of the frame. Robert Del Buono swiped a pair of bags after reaching on a walk, and Marinucci laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to score Del Buono and put the Eagles ahead 3-1. The Eagles tacked on another insurance run in the sixth inning when JJ Matos scored on Stevenson's second error of the afternoon. Meehan finished with two of Eastern's three hits in the win.

Stevenson struck first in game two, scoring its lone run on an RBI fielders choice from Vincent Licor. Bollman, however, remained steadfast, striking out Brandon Perillo for the first out, before inducing a groundout that led to a 1-2-3 double play to get the Eagles out of the jam. The Eagles recorded another double play in the third inning, and Bollman struck out Sam Batiancila with the bases loaded to keep it a one-run deficit.

The Eagles' offense finally broke through in the bottom of the third. After Marinucci hit a one-out double, MacDougall followed with an RBI single through the left side to tie the contest up at 1-1. In the fourth, first-year catcher Zach Mornell, with the bases loaded, scored Brian Lang on an RBI infield single, giving the Eagles a lead they would not relinquish. Eastern's pitching and defense took care of the rest, shutting down the Mustangs' offense in the final four five innings. MacDougall led the Eastern offense with two hits.

Eastern ends its season with a 17-23 and an 8-13 mark in league play.
