OWINGS MILLS, Md. - To begin its final series of the 2025 season, Eastern Baseball led off the weekend with a 4-3 victory over the Stevenson Mustangs in Maryland. The Eagles (15-23, 6-13) rode strong pitching performances from sophomores
Brennan Moloughney and
Ethan Gwara and four early runs to earn their sixth conference win of the spring.
Moloughney (4-3) recorded one of his best starts of the season, going seven strong innings and racking up a career-high eight strikeouts. The sophomore gave up just three earned runs, which all came in the fourth inning, and he just allowed just three hits and seven total baserunners. Gwara was equally efficient in relief, recording his first save after pitching two scoreless frames with a pair of strikeouts.
The Eagles scored a pair of runs in the opening frame, taking a lead they would not relinquish. After
Jaden Taylor was hit by a pitch,
Luke Meehan reached on a Stevenson (10-27, 4-15) fielding error, and
Matthew Gonglik singled to left field,
Brian Lang scored Taylor on a sacrifice fly to center field to give the Eagles the lead.
Brock Langlotz followed with an RBI single to right field, giving the Eagles a two-run edge heading into the second frame.
After Moloughney began his outing with three scoreless frames, the Eagles' offense struck for two more runs in the top of the fourth.
Trent MacDougall roped an RBI single to right field to score
JJ Matos, and
Thomas Kozlusky drove in Eastern's final run of the afternoon with an RBI single to center field.
The Mustangs made their push in the fourth inning, pushing three across and putting the tying run on second base. Moloughney escaped the jam, striking out Stevenson's Brandon Perillo for the third out to end the threat.
Moloughney and Gwara locked it down from there. In his final three innings, Moloughney allowed just one more baserunner. In his two innings to close out the win, Gwara allowed just two baserunners.
