READING, Pa - On Saturday, Men's Track and Field competed in their first event of 2024 at the Alvernia Winter Invite at The PLEX. The Eagles had an impressive day of work with multiple MAC qualifying times and top-five performances.
First-year distance runner
Robert Walton finished first with a qualifying time in the 1 Mile Run (4:34.08), while
Ni'Male Greenwood finished fourth in the 60 Meter Dash (7.09) and set a school record in the prelims (7.06).Â
Eastern's relay teams showed out with impressive scores. The 4x800 Meter Relay team of
Astin Daniel,
Jason Karch, and
Levi Weir took first (8:34.40). The team of
Marvin Moore,
Zachary Howard,
Jason Bateman, and Greenwood finished second in the 4x200 Meter Relay (1:34.96). Finally, the 4x400 Meter relay team of
Jahson Santana,
James Ugorji, Walton, and
Daniel Franklin took second place (1:34.96).
To finish the day, in the 400 Meter Dash, first-year sprinter Ugorji finished sixth (54.98), and Weir finished eighth in the 800 Meter Run (2:07.95). In the 60 Meter Hurdles, Howard finished fifth (9.74), while
Donovan Skinner qualified with a fourth-place finish (9.33).
Elijah McCullough finished fourth in the Long Jump with a MAC qualifying distance of 6.52 m.Â
"Today was very exciting to watch," Eastern Head Coach
Will Mills said. "We saw some great performances coming off the long winter break and we even had some school records fall. Today was a good indication of things to come for the rest of the season."
Eastern Men's Track and Field will be back in action next week Jan. 27 for the Mini-Dip Invitational. Events began at 10 am.
