CHESTER, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Track and Field posted two program records at the Widener Last Chance Qualifier.
Robert Walton set the program mark in the 800 Meter Run and
Derrick Swain posted a new mark in the discus.
Running in the third heat, Walton ran a very balanced 1:52.55. He came through the halfway point at 55.16 and came home in just a little over 57 seconds. Walton's ran his previous outdoor best, a 1:53.85, at Bucknell earlier this year. HIs new mark puts him over a full second ahead of the 1:53.74 Rusty Batykefer ran at the 2019 MAC Championships. Walton also set the program record for the event inside.
Swain broke his own record in the Discus. The Eastern throwers have enjoyed great progress this year. Including a mark thrown by
Donovan Skinner in the Decathlon at MAC Championships, seven of the top ten marks in the Discus were set this year. Swain threw 44.25 meters on his second toss to beat the mark he set at MAC Championships last week by .16 meters.
Ni'Male Greenwood led a group of three Eastern runners looking to make a mark in the 100 Meters. Greenwood wound up placing third in the event with a 10.77, but he did not improve on his program record set last weekend.
James Ugorji and
Jason Bateman each ran solid races in the prelims but did not improve on their season-bests.
Ryle Mellinger raced in the Steeplechase and
Jason Karch ran a solid time in a warmer than optimal 5,000 Meters.
Jeric Lewis competed in the Triple Jump.
With Walton moving into the top spot on the program list in the 800 today, this year's young outdoor squad set new program standards in five individual running events, three relays, and all three rotational throws.
