LANCASTER, Pa. - Sophomore
Ian Hopkins broke his own record in the 60M Hurdles as Eastern Men's Track and Field opened its season at the Diplomat Open on Friday. The Eagles recorded 19 top-eight finishes and also recorded seven new PRs.
Last winter, Hopkins set the program record with a time of 8.27 at the MAC Indoor Championships. On Friday, Hopkins further etched himself into the record books. The Fanwood, N.J. product placed in first in the event on Friday with a time of 8.24.Â
Junior
James Ugorji also had a strong start to his junior year. The Philadelphia native placed first in both the 60m with a time of 7.01 and second in the 200m with a time of 22.98. Sophomore
Keyon Jones competed on both the track and the field, placing second in the 60m Hurdles (8.42) and fourth in the Long Jump (1.85m)Â
Several first-year competed well in their first collegiate event.
Jahari Brown finished third in both the 60m and 200m. In the 400m,
Christian Scales and
Sam Bruno placed fourth (52.20) and seventh respectively.
Jeffrey Robbins recorded the second-best throw in program history in the Shot Put, finishing sixth at 13.11 m.Â
Eastern will return to action in the spring semester. The Eagles begin 2026 at the Alvernia Winter Invitational on Jan. 17.Â
