FLEMINGTON, N.J.—Eastern University Baseball won its second
game in a row with a 15-run outburst on Tuesday night against the Muhlenberg
College Mules.
On a cold and windy night under the lights on Diamond Nation's
turf field, Eastern topped Muhlenberg 15-6.
The Eagles pounded out 19 hits and took advantage of seven
Muhlenberg errors en route to their most runs since scoring 21 against Lebanon
Valley College in April last year.
Eight of nine Eagles' starters recorded a hit. Freshman
Timmy Gorton went a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate and scored four times.
Senior Ryan McMenamin recorded four hits and scored three times. Eric Rossi and
Joe Grato each went 3-for-6. Grato and freshman Cal Sanelli each posted three
RBIs.
Eagles' pitcher Ryan Kehr tossed five innings in relief and
struck out five batters en route to the win. Kehr allowed four hits, walked one
and gave up two earned runs. Eastern's Korey McCormack, Justin Fredericks and
Tyler Sterkenburg combined to strike out five batters in a two-hit scoreless
final three innings.
Muhlenberg scored four runs in the bottom of the first
inning, but Eastern responded with a crooked number of its own in the top of
the third. Eastern scored five runs in the inning on five hits, including a
two-RBI double by Sanelli.
Eastern led 8-4 going into the bottom of the sixth, but
Muhlenberg got two back with back-to-back home runs. However, Eastern kept
Muhlenberg scoreless the rest of the way.
The Eagles scored four runs in the seventh, capitalizing on
three Mules' errors, and added three more runs in the eighth to put the game
completely out of reach.
Eastern (2-7) added a game with Swarthmore College at 4 p.m.
Wednesday.
