ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Eastern Baseball improved its Freedom Conference playoff chances by taking the weekend series against King's College.

The Eagles, after winning Friday night's game at King's, split Saturday's home doubleheader with the Monarchs. The Eagles lost game one 5-0 and won game two 8-4. The Eagles are now 9-11 this season and 4-8 in the Freedom Conference.

In game two, the Eagles surrendered a three-run lead in the top of the sixth, allowing King's to tie the game at 3-3. Then, in the bottom of the sixth, the Eagles exploded for five runs to take the lead for good.

The Eagles hit for the cycle in the inning, starting with Devon Ziegenfuss' leadoff home run over the fence in left center. Brandon Kenish followed with a single and was plated by an RBI-double by Tyler Orr. Eric Rossi completed the cycle with an RBI-triple to right center. The Eagles scored two more runs in the inning with an RBI-single by Greg DeSarro and an RBI-double by Anthony Messina. Eagles' coach Jed Morris said, "It was great for Zig (Ziegenfuss) to get that home run. I think their pitcher was getting a little tired and he left a fastball up and Zig got it."

The first four batters in Eastern's lineup (Kenish, Orr, Rossi, DeSarro) all finished with multiple hits in game two and went a combined 10-for-14. The Eagles finished with 13 hits in game two. Messina and Ziegenfuss had the remaining three hits.

Eagles pitcher Lucas Bremerman tossed six innings to earn his first win of the season. The junior struck out four batters and had two "1-2-3" innings. Bremerman escaped bases-loaded jams in the fifth and the sixth, striking out the Monarchs' cleanup hitter Anthony Lizzi in both innings. Bremerman had walked the Monarchs' best hitter, Chris Sweeney (.590 avg.) to load the bases in both situations. Morris commented that Bremerman didn't want to intentionally walk Sweeney, but that he gave Bremerman specific instructions on where to pitch to Sweeney.

Austin Little entered the game in the seventh as the closer. Little was tagged for a leadoff home run, but then retired the next three batters in order to give Eastern the win.

In the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, Monarchs' pitcher Brenton Eades shut out the Eagles and held them to five hits. Tyler Orr had two of those hits. He went 5-for-8 on the day. The Eagles left runners in scoring position in three of the seven innings of the first game.

The Eagles play two non-conference games on Wednesday and Thursday and challenge Wilkes University for a playoff spot on Friday and Saturday.
