ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Eastern Baseball, after scoring 21 runs on Tuesday, scored 15 runs in a win over Widener University on Wednesday.

The Eagles defeated the Widener Pride 15-11 at home on Wednesday, in a non-conference game that was a late addition to the schedule. Eastern improved to 17-16 this season, while Widener fell to 17-19.

Eastern freshman Stephen Valentine launched his first career home run, sending a three-run shot over the fence in left in the fourth inning. Valentine, starting in left field, batted 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Greg DeSarro, who batted 5-for-6 on Tuesday, improved his batting average further with a 3-for-5 performance on Wednesday. DeSarro is now batting .368 this season; he added two RBIs to increase his season total to 28.

Jordan Miller earned his second win of the season despite allowing eight earned runs. Miller threw three scoreless innings, but was hit hard in the first inning. The Pride jumped to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Eagles responded with five runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. The Eagles scored on an RBI-single by Greg DeSarro, a bases-loaded walk by Devon Ziegenfuss, a sac fly by Stephen Valentine and a two-RBI double by Dillon Schwartzer. 

After the tops of both lineups went scoreless in the second, the Pride scored three runs in the third while the Eagles added two more. The Eagles took the lead in the fourth, 10-8, scoring three runs on Valentine's home run.

Widener and Eastern traded runs in the sixth, but Eastern tallied three runs in the seventh. With first base open, Widener intentionally walked Tyler Orr, who was 0-for-3 on the day but leads the Eagles in RBIs this season, to load the bases. The intentional walk back fired as Greg DeSarro slapped a ball down the right field line to score Brandon Kenish from third. Anthony Messina, the next batter, singled to left to score Orr and Ryan McMenamin.

Widener added two runs in the eighth, but still trailed 14-11. The Eagles scored an insurance run in the bottom of the inning and Anthony Messina came in to pitch and took care of the Pride to end the ninth.

The Eagles' season comes down to this weekend. They host last place Delaware Valley College on Friday and will need to sweep the weekend series to remain in playoff consideration. The Eagles will also need some help to get in, needing Misericordia to sweep Wilkes and Manhattanville to lose at least one game against FDU this weekend.
