Box Score The Eagles used superior depth and solid hitting to best the host
Chargers 18-8 in darkness shortened contest. Devon Ziegunfuss led the
Eastern attack with 5 RBI's on a home run and a two-run double.
"We really wanted to have a game before we got to Myrtle Beach where we
could see guys in different situations," Head Coach Matt Midkiff stated,
"and it was good to see 20 guys get on the field for us."
The Eagles picked up two in the first and three in the second in support
of starter Ernie Stiegler. Stiegler struck out six of the seven batters
he faced in picking up the win. Kyle Kurdewan worked out of a jam to
pitch a scoreless third, and the Eagles broke the game open with an
eight run fourth.
Brandon Kenish started the rally with a single and the Eagles then
loaded the bases on an error and a hit batsman. Brendan Spall picked up
an RBI when he was hit by a pitch. Dave Prager, who had his home run
streak stopped at 3 games, lifted a long fly ball to drive in another
run. Dillon Schwartzer knocked home a pair with an RBi single and Andrew
DiFerdina hit a pinch-hit RBI single late in the inning.
The Chargers scratched for a run off Nick Moeltner in the 4th before teh
Eagles answered with three more in the bottom of the inning. Lucas
Huber and Austin Little combined to pitch the final two innings for the
Eagles.
Playing catcher for the first time this season, Greg DeSarro kept his
hitting streak alive with a 1-for-2 afternoon. His average dipped to
.571 after this afternoon. He is tied for the team lead with 6 RBI.
The Eagles are back in action Monday morning in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
