Box Score Spring Break trip with a 7-4 decision over Alma College. John
Taylor went 7 1/3 innings to pick up the win. The Eagles finished their
time in Myrtle Beach at 3-3.
Though Taylor came through with a
solid outing in his second start of the year, the real story was the
Eastern bats. After struggling through their first five games, the
Eastern hitters came alive with 13 hits in the 9:00 am affair. Mike
McNulty led the way with a 4-5 day. Senior outfielder Kurt Kebaugh
delivered the big blow for the Eagles with two RBI in a four run second
inning. The Eagles erased an early 2-0 lead and despite another Alma
tally in the bottom of the third, they did not trail again.
Ramon
Reyes went 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored. The senior catcher wrapped
up his Spring with a .400 batting average. Scott Renauro also scored a
run and batted in one with a 2-5 performance in the Eagles' final day
down South.
Joel Rios entered the game with the bases loaded in
the eighth and earned a five-out save. Taylor allowed three earned runs
but walked just one batter while striking out seven. Midkiff was
pleased with Taylor's performance. He said, "We have confidence that
John will keep us in games. He attacked the strike zone today and was
able to eliminate the big inning. This was a good way to finish the
trip."
The Eagles, who did not win their third game in 2009 until
the last day of March, return home to Pennsylvania where they are
scheduled to play Widener on Wednesday. The record snowfalls of
February have melted steadily over the last week and a half, but there
is still uncertainty as to weather the field will be playable by
Wednesday. Check goeasterneagles.com early next week for schedule
updates.
