ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.— Heading into next weeks MAC Championships, Eastern University Men's and Women's Track and Field competed with a limited line-up in a final tune-up at Elizabethtown College. Though not running. a full squad, the Eastern men smothered the sprints and outscored the opposition with an overwhelming 189 points. The Eastern women finished third of thirteen.
Jason Bateman won the 100 Meters and
Ian Hopkins and
Fritz Clement placed second and fifth in the 110 High Hurdles.
Keyon Jones stayed away from the Hurdles today and finished second in the 200 Meter Dash.
Zachary Howard,
Fritz Clement, and
Austin Boddie also finished top eight. The Eagles have seven men who have run qualifying times in the 200.
Jahari Brown won the 400 Meter Dash and was one of five Eastern athletes to score in the event. Brown,
Edward Sylve, and
ShaMar Davis all hit MAC Qualifying standards in the event. Though Brown is unlikely to run the open 400 at MACs the Eagles could line up four athletes in the event.
In Distance,
Levi Weir won the 1500 but just missed a MAC qualifying time., and
Astin Daniel set a new PR in the Steeple. With the Eagles like to be scrapping for points for a top finish at MACs, Daniel could be competing for a podium spot in the event. Led by
Ryle Mellinger at 9:20.7, eight MAC Athletes have gone sub-10 in the event.
Foday Koroma broke his own program-record in the Hammer with a 42.69 meter tos, and
Ayden Parker threw 12.83 in the Shot Put. The Eastern throwers will also be looking to steal points with big efforts at the MAC Meet.
Derrick Swain continues to show improvement coming off an injury from Football.
With the cold rain falling through much of the day, it was not a great day for jumping.
Elijah McCullough had a solid day with a third place finish in the Long Jump, and
Jeric Lewis closed in on 14 Meters with a season-best Triple Jump.
Bemnet Mekebeb finished second in the Triple Jump.
Donovan Skinner won the Pole Vault in preparation for his upcoming Decathlon.
The Eagles had a chance to work on exchanges and won both 4 x 100 Meter Relays.
Savana Dodd again led the Women. She won the Shot Put and Finished second in the Discus. Anaharie Anderson ran a season-best in the 400 Meters. Even in the cold,
Aniya Stevens ran just off her PR in the 100 Meters.
The Eastern staff will make entries early this week for the three-day championships held at Messiah starting on Thursday.
