READING, Pa.—
Janitza Hernandez-Albino and
Savana Dodd each garnered bronze medals and two relay teams earned podium spots as Eastern University Women's Track and Field competed on day one of the MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Dodd, who has set PR's in one event or another for almost every week of the indoor season delivered a couple 16-meter tosses to finish third in the Weight Throw. She will compete again in the Shot Put tomorrow. Her 16.16 would have been a season-best if she had done it last week, but her amazing performance in the Weight at Penn State stretched her PR to 16.57.
Hernandez-Albino came into today's championship and was seeded into the first of two flights of the long jump. While working to improve her multi scores, she touched five meters for the first time earlier this year with a 5.07 meter jump at Franklin & Marshall. She blew that PR away with her first jump of the day. Her 5.33 meter effort would hold to secure third in the event. She had a second five-meter jump on her second attempt. She had to pass on her final two attempts to run a leg in Eastern's 4 x 200 Meter relay.
The Eagles picked up three points with a sixth-place finish in that event. Eastern also scored a pair of points with a seventh-place finish in the Distance Medley relay.
Tyla Cooper jumped a collegiate-best 5.13 to make finals and
Madison Bunnell hit 4.99 to finish 11th in the Long Jump.
De'Nair Drew qualified for tomorrow's finals with a strong run in the 60 Meter Hurdles.
Action for the women tomorrow starts in the morning with the pentathlon hurdles at 9:45 am.
