WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Eastern Men's Tennis opened its 2025-2026 seaso this past weekend at the King's College Tournament. It was an excellent first showing for Eastern's young squad, as every player made it to the quarterfinals, six made it to semifinal play in both singles and doubles, and three made it to the finals at No. 6 singles and No. 4 doubles, respectively.
"It was a great weekend of competition," Eastern Head Coach
Harrison Bitzberger said. "We are happy with how we performed this weekend but are excited about where our team can go from here throughout the rest of the year. We have a younger team this year and this was a great building block for them."
In doubles play, first-years
Toby Sallee and
Zachary Sprung made an excellent first impression, advancing all the time to the finals with a 6-1 over Wilkes in the quarterfinals and a 6-3 win over Elizabethtown in the semifinals. They went on to drop a hard fought match to Muhlenberg in the finals, 6-2. Senior
Jeffrey Day and sophomore
Jared Groff also advanced to the semifinal round with a 6-2 win over Misericordia in the quarterfinals.
Sallee also performed well in singles competition, advancing all the way to the finals with an 8-1 victory over Misericordia and a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Rutgers-Camden. Junior
Peter Folga earned a win at No. 2 singles in the round of 16 over Misericordia, 8-3, sophomore
Elite Lim came away with a 8-1 win over host King's at No. 5 singles in the round of 16, and first-year
Stephen Dottoli also earned a win, 8-4, over Misericordia in the quarterfinals.
Eastern returns to action in two weekends, heading to Rutgers-Camden to take on the Scarlet Raptors. First serve is set for 3:30 pm.
