For the third-straight year, Eastern University Women's Soccer is playing in the post-season. As the four-seed in this year's event, the Eagles (9-4-5) will play the top-seeded Messiah University Falcons (17-2) in the opening round.
The Eagles earned their spot in the tourney with a 3-2-2 mark in the league. Only two MAC Commonwealth teams scored against the Eagles this year, and the Eastern defense has allowed only one goal, a late talley at York, in the last five matches. While the defending a goalkeeping has been very solid, the Eagles have only scored twice in that time. Both those goals turned into game-winners in 1-0 league wins.
The fourth-ranked Falcons outscored league opponents 24-1 on the way to a 7-0 league record. While Eastern was the only league team to score against a Falcon defense that has allowed only five goals this year, that tally came after Messiah had built a 4-0 lead in a game that eventually finished 5-1.
The Eagles will need to execute on restarts and keep things tight in the back to snap Messiah's string of 24-consecutive Championship Game appearances. Messiah
Junior goalkeeper
Faith Leake has made 48 stops in four-career matches against Messiah.
Eastern did not win a league match in 2022 and has gone 11-6-4 in league play in the three years since. Messiah has won six-straight MAC Commonwealth Championships.
York College will host Stevenson in the other semifinal.
