ABINGTON, Pa. - Eastern Women's Soccer improved to 2-0 on the young season with a 5-0 win over Penn State Abington on Saturday afternoon.
Molly Schellpeper potted a pair of goals,
Saige Korpics scored her second goal in as many collegiate matches in the first half, and both Corinne Myers and
Emily Monforto notched their first collegiate goals. Myers and Korpics also recorded their first career assists in the win.
The Eagles dominated in the offensive third, outshooting the Lions 24-3. Additionally, Eastern put 14 shots on frame in the opening half alone, while limiting the Lions to just three total shots in the contest.Â
Schellpeper began the scoring in the 18th minute, settling a bouncing ball that went off Myers and punching it into the bottom left corner of the net to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Schellpeper added her second goal in the 36th minute, scoring from almost the exact same spot off the assist from Korpics. Korpics went on to score three minutes later to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead at the halftime break.
The Eagles kept the pressure up in the second half, tallying 10 shots and adding two more goals. Myers notched her first college goal in the 58th minute, and Monforto capped off the scoring in the 78th minute to secure Eastern's second straight shutout win.
"I was really proud of the team's performance and the amount of chances they created in the attacking third," Eastern Head Coach
Jess Shanahan said. "A lot of positives to take away. We are on to the next one."
Eastern (2-0) will be back on the road on Wednesday for a night game at Rutgers-Camden. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.
