CHESTER, Pa.– Eastern University Track and Field had several strong performances on the final day of the 2021 MAC Outdoor track and Field Championships.
Kaitlin Bell hit a new personal best to claim gold in her final MAC Pole Vault Championship competition. The Eagles also picked up medals from
Ethan Dionne with a silver in the Men's Pole Vault and Kaitlin Bernotas with a Bronze in the 1500 meter run.
Bell entered the competition as the fourth seed. She came in with a personal-best mark of 3.26 meters. After clearing 3.21 meters, She joined defending-champion Madison Swartout of Misericordia as the only two vaulters left to attempt 3.31 meters. Both players missed on the first attempt, but Bell made her second attempt. Swartout also made the height, but Bell took gold on the fewer attempts tiebreaker. Bell finished third in 2019 and eighth in 2018.
Katelyn Bernotas dropped nearly two full seconds off her PR in taking bronze in the 1500 Meters. Her time is right on the edge of the top-50 times nationally.
In addition to the medals, the Eagles had several podium finishes for the women.
The Women's 4 x 100 Meter Relay team picked up a single point with an eighth-place finish in the today's finals.
Alyse Hand, who ran the anchor ont he relay, claimed fifth a 26.85 second run in the 200 Meter Dash. The time was over a second faster than her PR in the event coming into the weekend.
Brianna Ulaky grabbed two points with a seventh place finish in the 400 Meters.-
Joelle Wash, who placed fourth int he Heptathlon yesterday, picked up another point with an eighth-place finish in the shot put.
Mary Bernotas ran five seconds faster than her qualifying time in the 800 Meters to take fourth in that event. She, joined with her sister, Ulaky and
Tara Ford to get on the podium with a fifth-place finish in the 4 x 400 Meters Relay.
Katelyn Bernotas ran the anchor in under a minute to close the meet for the Eastern Women.
Dionne's silver was the top finish of the day for the men. His 4.44 meter jump was just off his PR. Messiah freshman Josiah Zehr added nearly a foot to his PR and cleared 15 feet to win the event.
King Henderson earned eighth-place finishes in the Long Jump and the Triple Jump, and
Milan Sharma ran just off his personal best to take eighth in the 1500 Meters.
Nolan Case joined Dionne on the podium with a sixth-place finish in the pole vault.
