ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– For the first time since 2015, Eastern University Softball is playing in the post-season. The Eagles (11-11) start their MAC Commonwealth tournament road at fourth-seeded Messiah University at 1:00 pm on Saturday.
By sweeping their season-ending senior-day doubleheader against Hood, the program finished the regular season at .500 for the first time since 2012.
To keep their season going, the Eagles will need to break another trend. In the ten meetings between the programs, the Eagles have not beaten Messiah.
After not scoring against the Falcons in the first three meetings between the two teams this year, the Eagles used a four-run sixth to force extra innings in a 9-7 nine-inning loss on April 14. The Eastern line-up pounded out ten hits in the loss.
Sami Britton has led the Eastern attack through the year. The junior infielder is hitting .448 with nine doubles and a triple.
Emily Loomis and
Kelci Cost have each scored 12 runs to lead the Eagles in that category. Loomis is hitting .339.
Lexi Evelyn leads the Eastern pitching staff with six wins and a 2.13 ERA.
If the two teams split the doubleheader on Saturday, action will return to St. Davids for a single game starting at 2:30. Per tournament rules, Messiah would bat last in that game as well.
Per campus policies, Eastern and Messiah athletic events are open to students and staff from the host institution and a limited number of guests of home team players. The only off-campus guests allowed at the game are people on the approved pass lists.
