WILKES-BARRE, Pa.– After nearly two years without any outdoor competitions, Eastern University Track and Field started its season at the King's College Invitational. Several Eagles had strong days in their first performances in quite some time.
For a men's squad dominated by new faces,
Chase Harris led the way. The sprinter from Wilmington, Del. took third in both the 100 Meters and the 200 Meters.
Milan Sharma ran a solid 4:15.35 to take second in the 1500 Meters.
Nolan Case and Johnathan Nixon took third in the Pole Vault and the High Jump.
For the Women,
Katelyn Bernotas put up a silver-medal finish in the 800 Meters, and
Mary Bernotas matched her sister with silver in the 1500 Meters. The women ran to a second-place finish in the 4 x 400 Meters.
The Field Events delivered some highlights for the Eastern Women.
Taylor Bynum-Bain earned the only gold medal of the day with a 5.19 meter leap in the Long Jump.
Kaitlin Bell finished second in the Pole Vault and
Charissa Copeland finished third in the discus.
"We had a lot of solid performances, conference qualifiers, and some personal bests, "Head Coach Michael Moffitt Jr. said. "For the most part we have the strength and power we need, it's just a matter of refining the technique aspects a bit. We're definitely getting the rust off in some areas but that just comes from getting competition level reps and I'm confident we'll be able to lock in by conference."
The Eagles are at Lebanon Valley College next weekend.
