Box Score MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.– Eastern University Baseball used an 11-run sixth inning to run away to a 16-0 win over the Eastern Mennonite University Royals (10-6) in a rainy night game at the Ripken Experience Baseball complex.
Mickey Foytik struck out six in eight shutout innings, and
Jake Jones delivered two home runs to lead the Eastern hitters.
How It Happened:
Foytik was in command early. Though the weather was bad, the senior right hander had good command of his pitches. He walked three and allowed three hits in his eight innings of work.
The Eagles picked up what turned out to be the only run they would need when Jones reached on a two-out error and
Freddy Yahn came home in the second. The Eagles doubled their lead with a two-out rally in the third.
Liam Clarke singled and came home on a
Britton Lawrence double.
Jones hit his second-career home run to make it 3-0 with two outs in the fourth. Jones missed nearly his entire sophomore season with injury. He had a home run and two doubles in nine at bats last year before being sidelined. He finished the day with three hits and five RBI's. He singled early in the sixth and hit a grand slam late to cap the rally. The Eagles scored 11 times on five hits and an error.
The Eagles (6-3) added two more on an RBI double from Clarke in the eighth.
Nick Kosenske retired all three hitters he faced in the ninth. He recorded the final out just before midnight.
Up Next:
The Eagles will play at Stockton University on Tuesday before opening MAC Freedom play with a three-game set against Delaware Valley on the weekend.
