Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.– Eastern University Baseball opened the 2019 season with a pair of games against Penn State Berks. The Eagles saw a 5-1 lead evaporate in a 6-5 extra-inning loss in the opener and fell behind early and never recovered in a 15-5 loss in the nightcap.
Newcomer
Mickey Foytik scattered six hits and allowed a single run over his five-inning outing in the opener. The Lions picked up four unearned runs with two outs in the seventh to force extra innings. The Eagles put a runner on in the eighth, but Zach Belansek was stuck at first when the inning ended. The Lions walked off the game on a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the eighth.
Brady DiGiacomo returned to the line-up with a two-RBI double.The junior outfielder missed his entire sophomore season for medical reasons.
Brad Clemens had a pair of hits, including a two-RBI homer in the top of the seventh.
The Lions jumped a big first-inning lead on control issues from starter
Nelson Ocasio.
Britton Lawrence reached base three times and Jeff Williams reached twice in the the game.
Coach Renauro Says:
"We squared a couple balls up early in the game but couldn't get anything going. We didn't close the door like we should have."
" Nelson didn't have it his best stuff today. He is still coming back from a few minor physical things. He should get there. It was a game to see a lot of guys play and see who we can go to in future games."
