Eastern University Women's Basketball looks to continue its strong start to the season with a pair of contests at Kean University this weekend. The Eagles will play the host Cougars in the 7:00 pm game this evening. Moravian College and the University of Lynchburg will play in the first game of the tournament at 5:00 pm.
Eastern (2-0) has used strong fourth-quarter pushes to earn wins in the first two contests of the season. The Eagles used a 23-1 run in the fourth to pull away to an 80-64 win over Lebanon Valley College in the opener. On Tuesday, the Eagles outscored Cabrini 29-23 in the final 10 minutes to pull away to a 69-55 win.
Regie Robinson is averaging 24 points and 11 rebounds per outing for the Eagles in the early going. The team's lone senior is closing in on the 1,000 point mark for her career. She had 906 points coming into the year and now is at 954. The Eagles split their last two games against the host Cougars (0-1). In December of 2016, Robinson scored 15 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in a 70-63 win. Last season, Robinson scored 18 and grabbed 20 rebounds in a 70-63 home loss.
Robinson, who is playing more on the perimeter this year, has had help.
Viki Kneis and Brianna-Young Harris have both played an important role protecting the basket. Kneis, a sophomore is averaging 12.5 points and 6.5 rebounds and outing, and Young-Harris is at 9.5 points and 8.5 rebounds through two games.
Da'Naziah Brown and
Jaelyn Harris have played different roles in the backcourt. Brown has carried much of the ball handling duties and
Jaelyn Harris, a freshman, is a threat from the perimeter. She is averaging 11.5 points and outing.
Head Coach
Eric Houston is getting solid rotation minutes from
Naomi Harris,
Brynn Schmidt, and
Bria Rivers. With games on back-to-back days, the Eagles will need their entire rotation to contribute.
Saturday's opponent and game time will be determined by this evening's results.
