YORK, Pa.— Eastern University Women's Basketball rallied in the second half, but fell short in a 61-52 MAC Commonwealth loss at York.
Tychelle Gordon finished with a 13-point 13-rebound double-double to lead the Eagles.
The Spartans (9-14, 7-5) held a 13-7 lead after one quarter and built that edge to 15 points midway through the second quarter. Adrianna Summersett scored all five points in a 5-to-2 run to close the gap to 12 points and, after a York free throw,
Hope Gaither added a basket to close the gap to 27-16, but the Spartans scored the final hoop of the half to lead by 13 at the break.
Gordon opened the second half with a three-point play, and the Eagles closed the gap to single digits on several occasions in the third, but after three periods, the hosts still held a 41-30 lead.
In the fourth quarter, the Eagles (7-16, 2-10) made 9-of-17 from the floor and pulled to within four points on an Ariyanna Hester 3-pointer with 1:47 on the clock.
Neither team made a field goal the rest of the way, but the hosts made free throws down the stretch to push the final margin to nine. In the final quarter, Hester and Gordon each scored six and Arin Manuel had five.
The Eagles are back on the road at Alvernia Tuesday before finishing the season with a 2:00 pm home game against Hood next Saturday.
