Women's Basketball Celebrates with Senior Day Win

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.— Eastern University Women's Basketball closed out its season on a high note with a Senior Day Celebration and a runaway win. Jeriyah Johnson scored 18 and fellow seniors Damiyae Moyet and Dominique Geiger each had 16 to pace the Eagles to a 76-36 win over the visiting Hood College Blazers. The Eagles made 12-of-25 from behind the arc and won the rebounding battle 48-29.

After the team honored Johnson, Moyet, Geiger, and Hope Gaither before the game, that quartet started alongside Ariyana Hester and helped the Eagles to a 15-8 lead after one quarter. Hester and Johnson each scored six points in the first quarter.

After the Blazers scored the first basket of the second quarter, Johnson answered with a 3-pointer. With her three long-range makes today, she has 41 3-pointers made this year and 178 for her career. That number is second on Eastern's career list behind Jaelyn Harris. She also went over 1400 points for her career to end with 1401 and she moved into tenth on Eastern's career assist list with 271.

Johnson's long-range effort sparked a 14-to-2 run to close the half. Moyet and Adriana Summersett also hit 3-pointers in the burst, and the Eagles led 29-13 at the intermission.

After Hood scored four of the first six points in the second half, Moyet hit a 3-pointer to put the Eagles up 34-17 and spark a 21-5 run to close the third. Moyet wound up making four 3-pointers in her final appearance for the Eastern Basketball.

Eastern made 9-of-17 and had six players score in the third.

Geiger scored the first two baskets of the fourth and went into double figures with a floater with five minutes left. She hit two 3-pointers down the stretch to finish with a career-high 16. Geiger was 7-of-8 from the floor with three rebounds and three assists.

With Geiger on fire, the Eagles had one more task for the day and they did it. Gaither scored a pair of tough lay-ups to hit her career high as well. Gaither, who along with Johnson, Geiger, and Moyet plays on Eastern's flag football team, has been a veteran presence for the Eagles throughout the year, and Eastern's six first-year players all celebrated Gaither's baskets.

The Eagles finished with 20 assists on 28 made baskets and the 12 3-pointers and 76 points were both season-best numbers.

Hester recorded five assists and a pair of steals, and Moyet had four steals and a career-high 12 rebounds.
