ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Eastern University Baseball recorded eight hits, slightly above the season average, against DeSales University on Thursday but were unable to bring any of the runners home.

Eastern fell to DeSales 7-0 as Bulldogs' pitcher Steven Wallace pitched a complete game shutout. Wallace struck out five, walked a batter and hit one.

The Eagles only allowed nine DeSales' hits, but DeSales capitalized on five Eastern errors, six walks and three hit-by-pitches.

Ryan McMenamin, Eagles' senior shortstop, batted 3-for-3 from the second spot in the lineup. McMenamin has hit safely in 10 of the last 11 games.

A day after having everyone in the starting lineup pick up a base knock, McMenamin and the three, four and five hitters were the only ones to get hits. Timmy Gorton went 1-for-4, and Joe Grato and Eric Rossi each went 2-for-4.

Austin Little pitched five innings in the loss. He only allowed four hits, two walks and two runs--one earned--while striking out two.

After a scoreless first four innings, DeSales picked up a run in the top of the fifth. The Bulldogs loaded the bases and could have broken the game open, but the Eagles turned a nice double play to limit the damage. Eagles' second baseman Tommy Strazza started the twin-killing with a back-handed flip to McMenamin at the bag. The Eagles conceded a run in exchange for the two outs.

The Eagles struggled in the sixth inning on the mound and burned through six pitchers. However, DeSales only scored twice in the inning and left two runners on base.

DeSales went on to score two runs in the seventh and eighth to lock up the win.

DeSales improved to 7-9 overall and 4-0 in the Freedom Conference. Eastern slipped to 5-10 (2-3 Freedom).

The Eagles resume the series with a doubleheader on Monday at DeSales at 1 p.m.
