King's Takes Two From Baseball

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WILKES-BARRE, Pa.—Eastern Baseball dropped both low-scoring, defensive games of Saturday's doubleheader at King's College.

The Eagles were held to four hits over the course of both games and fell 4-2 and 6-2 to the Monarchs.

Eastern leadoff batter Ryan McMenamin had his 21-game hit streak come to an end after he went 0-for-3 in game one. McMenamin came within one game of Scott Renauro's 22-game hitting streak set in 2010.

The Eagles trailed 1-0 entering the top of the fifth. Andrew DiFerdinando scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 1-1, and Andrew Check scored on a sac fly by Tyler Orr to give the Eagles the lead. King's regained the lead in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs off Eastern's starting pitcher Austin Little. Little, who took the loss, struck out four batters in 4.1 innings pitched.

The Eagles had just one hit in game one, but did earn nine walks and three hit-by-pitches.

In game two, the Eagles posted three hits on King's starter Ryan Gimbi who threw all seven innings. DiFerdinando had a two-RBI double in the top of the third to even the game at 2-2.

King's broke the tie with two more runs in the bottom of the inning and extended their lead with a run in the fourth and fifth innings. Lucas Bremerman took the loss after allowing nine hits over five innings and six runs, only three of which were earned. Bremerman struck out three batters and only walked one.

The Eagles will look to take the final game of the series with King's at home on Monday afternoon.
