Baseball Falls After Misericordia Rallies Late

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Eastern Baseball dropped Tuesday's rescheduled doubleheader against the Misericordia University Cougars. Misericordia scored in the final inning of each game to pull away.

The Cougars took the doubleheader 4-3 and 8-6. Misericordia was the home team in the seven-inning first game and won with a walk-off single by Kyle Lindsay. In the nine-inning game two, Eastern was back as the home team. The Cougars picked up two runs in the top of the ninth on back-to-back doubles to take the lead.

Eagles' left fielder Andrew DiFerdinando had the best day at the plate, batting 4-for-6 with two walks over both games. In the second inning of game one, he clubbed a home run over the mini "Green Monster" scoreboard in left field. The shot was the first homer to clear the new scoreboard.

The Eagles picked up six hits in game one while allowing six, but in game two, both teams earned double-digit hits. The Eagles outhit the Cougars 15-13 in game two with DiFerdinando, Ryan McMenamin, Eric Rossi and Zach DeSee each picking up two hits and Joe Grato and Andrew Check each recording three hits.

The Eagles started Austin Little and then Tom Gordon on the hill, but Lucas Bremerman and Ben Melendez took the losses in 0.1 innings pitched in relief.

In game one, the Eagles took a 3-1 lead in the top of the sixth after Dillon Schwartzer cranked a two-out triple to score DiFerdinando and Tyler Orr.    

The Cougars added two runs in the bottom of the sixth and got the Eagles to go down in order in the top of the seventh. The Cougars then scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a walk-off single.

In game two, the Eagles trailed 6-5 going into the bottom of the eighth. Andrew Check knocked in the tying run with a line drive to left, scoring Ryan McMenamin from who was moving on a hit-and-run.

The Cougars took the lead back 8-6 with two RBI doubles in the top of the ninth. The Eagles loaded the bases with one out, but were unable to bring any of the runners home.

The Eagles are right back at it on Wednesday when they play at Immaculata at 4 p.m.
