Baseball Nipped By Colonels

Box Score

FLEMINGTON, N.J.--Eastern Baseball dropped the first game of the conference schedule on Friday afternoon against Wilkes University in extra innings, 8-7.

The Wilkes University Colonels slipped past the Eagles in the 11th inning after loading the bases and getting hit by a pitch.

Every Eagle in the starting lineup reached base safely Friday. Tyler Orr's bat came to life as he batted 3-for-6 and led the Eagles with four RBIs.

Joe Grato also went 3-for-6 from the plate and freshman Ryan Kehr knocked in two runs on a 1-for-4 day.

Eastern compiled 13 hits and six walks, while Wilkes posted 14 hits and seven walks.

The Eagles fell behind 7-5 after four innings, but tied the game in the sixth. Eric Rossi reached third to start the inning and scored after a single by Tyler Orr. The Eagles later loaded the bases and a bases-loaded walked of Ryan Kehr sent Orr home to tie the game.

Wilkes broke the tie in the bottom of the 11th after loading the bases against Eagles' pitcher Andrew Check. Check's delivery hit Wilkes' Marcus Leaf to advance the winning run home.

Check, who pitched a no-hit 10th inning, was tabbed with the loss. Austin Little started on the mound for the Eagles, but was relieved by Lucas Bremerman in the third inning. Bremerman tossed seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two.

The Eagles hope to continue the series at home on Sunday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
