DALLAS, Pa.--Eastern Baseball fell 18-5 against the Misericordia University Cougars on Saturday after allowing eight runs in the sixth and six more in the eighth.
With the loss, the Eagles dropped to 15-14, 6-10 in the Freedom Conference. Misericordia improved to 13-3, tied for first place in the conference.
The Eagles currently sit in sixth place in the conference, but with five conference games remaining, they still have a chance to earn a playoff spot. The Eagles host Misericordia in a doubleheader tomorrow starting at 1 p.m. and need to avoid getting swept. Their remaining three Freedom games come against Delaware Valley College, who is currently ranked last in the conference.
The Eagles scored five runs on seven hits Saturday. Brendan Spall was the only Eagle with multiple hits. He went 2-for-2 batting from the nine-hole. Eric Rossi clubbed a two-run home run in the top of the ninth. He now has 21 RBIs this season, third best on the team. Outfielder Tyler Orr had his 11-game hitting-streak snapped with an 0-for-4 day at the plate.
Pitcher Ben Melendez was charged with the loss, surrendering five hits and five walks. He allowed eight runs, only three of which were earned. The Eagles defense committed five errors on the afternoon, including two in the eight-run sixth innning.
