CENTER VALLEY, Pa.- Eastern University Baseball dropped
both ends of a doubleheader at DeSales University on Monday afternoon.
DeSales pitchers kept the Eastern hitters off balance throughout the
day, and the Eagles could muster only four runs and eleven hits in
losing 11-2 and 4-2.
Sophomore Eric Rossi continues to hit the
ball with authority for the Eagles. He saw 21 pitches in going 0-for-3
with a walk in the first game, and he had three of Eastern's six hits in
the nightcap. All three of his hits were doubles.
The Eagles
made it through the first two innings without either team scoring, but
the Bulldogs scored three runs in the third to take the lead. The Eagles
answered with a run in the top of the fourth, but the league-leading
Bulldogs (13-5, 7-0 Freedom) plated six more in the bottom of the inning
to break the game open. The Eagles scored a single tally without the
benefit of a hit in the sixth inning before the Bulldogs grabbed two
back in the bottom of the frame.
Lucas Bremerman took the hill for
Eastern in game two. DeSales took the lead in the first on a single, a
stolen base and another single. The Bulldogs stretched their lead to 4-0
with three runs after two were out in the bottom of the second inning.
Bremerman
allowed only three singles the rest of the way, but DeSales starter
David Drinks was able to hold the Eagles to single tallies in the fourth
and fifth innings. Rossi doubled to lead off the fourth and scored on
an error, and he drove in Brandon Kenish with two outs in the fifth.
The
Eagles had the tying run on base in the sixth and to the plate in the
seventh, but the Bulldog bullpen was able to keep the Eagles from
scratching again.
Eastern returns to action on Wednesday with a
home game against the University of Maine-Presque Isle. Eastern (6-10,
2-7 Freedom) returns to action in the league at King's on Friday.
