Baseball Takes Two From Berks

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.--Eastern Baseball swept Wednesday's doubleheader against PSU-Berks, winning 11-7 and 11-1.

Eastern's Greg DeSarro helped lead the offensive onslaught, batting a team best 6-for-10 over the two games. All six of DeSarro's hits came with runners in scoring position. 

Including DeSarro, the Eagles had five players with multiple hits in the first game and two in the second game.

In game one of the doubleheader, the Eagles took a 2-1 lead in the third with an RBI-single by Greg DeSarro that scored Angelo Kelly.

After the Nittany Lions tied the ballgame in the fourth, but Eastern exploded for six runs in the fifth. The Eagles tagged Nittany Lions' pitcher Alex Doyle for six consecutive hits. Dillion Schwartzer, who batted 3-for-4 in game one, led off the fifth with a double down the left field line. DeSarro followed with another single and freshman first baseman Joe Grato sent Schwartzer home with a single. The hit parade continued with Tyler Orr and Eric Rossi getting singles. Third baseman Mark Royer unloaded the bases with a double to center. Royer later scored on a ground out, giving Eastern the 8-2 lead going into the bottom of the fifth.

Eastern pitcher Barry Jost, allowed just four hits through the first four innings, but ran into trouble in the fifth, allowing five hits and five runs.

The Eagles added an insurance run in the top of the sixth, with Dillon Schwartzer stealing second and third and then being batted home by Tyler Orr.

Jordan Miller came in from the bullpen and shut down the Nittany Lions for the two-inning save.

In game two, the Eagles took advantage of five Nittany Lion errors en route to the 11-1 win. Austin Little earned the win on the mound, allowing five hits in four innings and striking out six. Eagles' relievers Ryan Ellison, Drew Shaw and Sam Rogers followed Little by each tossing a hitless inning.

Joe Grato put Eastern on the board in game two with an RBI double in the first to score Dillon Schwartzer.

The Eagles then batted around in the second scoring five while taking advantage of four Nittany Lion errors.

Eastern's Angelo Kelly put the game further out of reach with an RBI single in the third. Schwartzer then scored Kelly with a sacrifice fly. The Eagles added one more run in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

The Eagles wrap up their spring break trip Thursday morning at 9 a.m. against York College (Pa.)
