MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.--Eastern University Baseball connected for 16 hits in a 14-3 win over Penn St.-Harrisburg on Wednesday afternoon.
The game took place at Pelicans Ballpark, home of the minor league Myrtle Beach Pelicans.
Eastern's Ernie Stiegler pitched six innings for the win, allowing six hits and striking out two. Harrisburg's Mark Chimel was tabbed with the loss, giving up 11 runs (four earned) in five innings.
Two Eastern players recorded 4-hit days. Greg DeSarro increased his season average to .571 with a 4-for-5 day, and Dillon Schwartzer also batted 4-for-5. Andre Butler, after batting 4-for-5 the night before, batted 2-for-3 from the leadoff spot and also drew two walks. Brandon Kenish was the only other Eagle with multiple hits Wednesday. He batted 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Eastern's bullpen pitched three scoreless innings to close out the game. Barry Jost made his first collegiate pitching appearance, tossing a one-hit seventh inning while striking out one batter. Drew Shaw followed in the eighth, giving up a hit and a walk, but striking out two batters. Kristian Cortizo retired Harrisburg's final three batters in order to end the game.
The Eagles' biggest offensive inning came in the second inning when they scored five runs.
The Eagles play two more spring break games before returning home. Their next game is at 6pm on Thursday against PSU-Berks.
