ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Just six outs away from sealing a 5-1 home win on Wednesday, the Eagles found that those last outs were the hardest ones to get.
Eastern gave up eight runs before recording a single out in a circus-like eighth-inning and an eventual ninth run before the inning ended. When the dust settled, the Eagles found themselves on the losing end of a 12-6 game against the Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats.
Eagles' pitcher Gary Moses pitched five solid innings, allowing just one run on one hit. Pitchers Nick Moeltner and Greg Lukasik kept the Diplomats scoreless in the sixth and the seventh, but the pitchers in the eighth ran in to trouble, allowing five free passes to first and five hits.
In addition to the bad inning, the Eagles offense was stagnant at the top of the order--the first four batters batted 1-for-18.
Brandon Kenish and Brendan Spall each had strong days at the plate, combining for three walks, four hits and four RBIs.
The Eagles, now 10-7, head back to conference play with a game against King's on Friday at 3:30 pm.
