ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Eastern University Baseball exploded at the plate for 28 runs against Wilkes University at home on Saturday to take the season series against Wilkes University.
The Eagles sent 18 runners across home plate in game one of the double header, while only allowing one Wilkes' run to score. The Eagles capped off the series win with a 10-7 victory in game two.
The Eagles, now 9-4 this season and 2-1 in the Freedom Conference, while impressive offensively, received a stellar performance on the mound by Nick Moeltner in game one. Moeltner improved to 3-1 this season while scattering four hits, walking two, and striking out six in six innings pitched. Moeltner now has 23 punch-outs this season and an ERA of 1.57.
First baseman Dave Prager knocked in a season-high five RBIs in game one, going 3-for-5 and blasting his fifth home run of the season. Eagles' catcher Greg DeSarro also went yard, cranking his first home run of the season in what ended up as a 10-run fourth inning for the Eagles. DeSarro finished game one 4-for-4 with three RBIs.
Brendan Spall, Mark Royer and Brandon Kenish also had a multi-hit game in the early-game rout.
In game two, Kenish made his first appearance on the mound this year. He pitched three innings of shutout-ball to lead off the contest, but he ran into trouble in the fourth inning. He allowed four runs , and WIlkes tied the score 4-4. The Eastern offense again came through offense in the bottom of the fourth with five runs on seven hits.
Wilkes trailed 10-5 going into the top of the seventh. The visitors kept things interesting when they loaded the bases and scored a pair of runs off Eastern closer John Taylor. Taylor escaped with a double play and a liner to second baseman Scott Renauro.
Prager added two more RBIs in game two while batting 1-for-3. Leadoff batter André Butler batted 3-for-3 with a walk and five other players recorded two hits: Renauro, DeSarro, Kristian Cortizo, Royer and Spall.
The Eagles take on the Centenary College Cyclones on Tuesday at home at 3:30 pm.
