DOYLESTOWN, Pa.— Five Eastern University Wrestlers claimed titles and all eight placed at the inaugural MAC Women's Wrestling Championships.
With a shutout win by technical fall at 103,
Jesenia Camargo became the first-ever MAC Champion in Women's Wrestling. Camargo reached the final with a pin in her first match.
In a back-and-forth battle at 117,
Josey Wehr claimed a 13-8 decision over York's Gisele Ramirez in the first of five head-to-head matches between the two squads at the championships. Down 6-4 early in the second round, the junior flipped the momentum with a 4-point move and kept the pressure on to the finish.
Savannah Witt continued her strong rookie season with a pair of wins by fall to claim the title at 124. Witt's two opponents lasted a combined minute and 16 seconds. Her win in the final was Eastern's second of the day over an opponent from York.
Zoey Haines, also a top seed, won by pin in both her matches. The first-year wrapped up each of her two matches in less than a minute. She also beat a wrestler from York in the final.
Olivia Kinder reached the final at 160 with atechnical fall win in the quarterfinal and a tight 4-0 decision in the semifinals. In the championship match, she provided the highlight of the day with an opening-round suplex against York's Kylie Monroe. She claimed the title at 160 and avenged an early-season loss with an 11-0 win by technical fall early in the second round.
York's lone win in head-to-head competition came in a great final at 138.
Paige Jackson blanked a pair of opponents to reach the final and was up in the championship until very late. York junior Maura White went up 3-2 in the final 40 seconds and caught Jackson chasing a result with a good counter-move.
Anaelis Morales reached a final at 110 with a quick pin in her semifinal. She fell in the final to take second in the weight class.
In a weight class with only three competitors,
Maya Krieger came up on the short end of a three-way tie in a round-robin bracket. She dominated the match with York's wrestler in the final match of the day, but a loss by fall earlier in the day put her into third.
At the end of the meet, York was announced as team champions.
The Eagles will wrestle a dual at Loch Haven next Sunday before starting into NCAA Regionals in late February.
