Three Earn Women's Wrestling Academic All-MAC Honors

NEWTOWN, Pa.— The Middle Atlantic Conference office today released the league's first Academic All-MAC list for Women's Wrestling. Eastern University Women's Wreslting had three individuals earn spots on the list. Zoey Haines, Savannah Witt, and Josey Wehr each earned a spot on the inaugural list. 

Witt, the MAC Women's Wrestler of the Year, earned All-America Honors and was the league and regional champion at 124 pounds. Witt finished the year at 31-3 and secured bonus-point wins in 28 of her 31 wins. The first-year standout did not lose to an NCAA wrestler until the National tournament. She is a Psychology major. 

Haines was the MAC Rookie of the Year and led the nation in pins. She finished with a 35-7 overall mark and with 24 pins and 10 technical falls picked up bonus-point victories in 34 of her 35 victories. She was the MAC Champion at 145 pounds and earned All-America Honors at 145. She is a Biology major.

Wehr, a junior Criminal Justice major, won a MAC title at 117 pounds and qualified for the National Tournament with a runner-up finish at the Regional Championships. Wehr finished the season with a 25-13 record.

Academic All-MAC teams are selected by vote from Sports Information Directors from the 16 member institutions. Who vote based on athletic and academic achievement. To be nominated, individuals need at least a 3.2 GPA in the semester of competition to be recognized. 

In its first season of competition, Eastern Women's Wrestling secured MAC Championship wins at five weight classes and advanced five women to Nationals.
