Malik Asfour earned a title at 125, and
Ryan Mansueto and
Nicholas DeLorenzo each gathered runner-up honors as Eastern University Men's Wrestling made a successful debut at the MAC Championships. The Eagles finished with 62.5 team points to finish eighth overall in their first MAC Championship event.
Asfour won bonus-point wins in each of his four matches as he secured Eastern's first Wrestling Championship. After earning technical falls in his first two wins, he advanced to the Championship match with a 14-2 decision over a wrestler from York. He won 12-2 in the championship match.
At 141, Mansueto earned a spot in the final with a pin in his opening round, a close win by a 10-8 decision over a wrestler from Messiah in the quarters, and a major decision win in the semifinals. He battled Nico Diaz, a nationally-ranked opponent from Stevens, but fell 12-6 in the Championship match.
DeLorenzo earned bonus-point wins in each of his first three matches at 165. After a 19-3 win in his opener, he claimed a win by pin in his second round. He reached the final with an 8-0 win. He ran into a very strong opponent in Messiah's Keegan Demarest in the championship match. With the support of his home fans, Demarest pulled away to win by Technical Fall for the title.
Trokon Kai reached the quarterfinals at 149, and
Jackson Orrell won a pair of matches at 133.
Braydon Castillo and
Ross Worlds each won single matches.
Messiah claimed the team title.
