NEWTOWN, Pa.— The Middle Atlantic Conference office today announced all-conference lists and special awards for Men's Lacrosse. League coaches honored seven Eastern men with ALl-MAC Commonwealth recognition. Eastern finished 5-2 in MAC Commonwealth play and qualified for conference tournament play for the 18th consecutive season.
Nick Litzenberger and
Sean Dendall earned first-team honors,
Dominic Marangoni,
Christopher Fanelli, and
Brett Gougler earned second-team nods, and
Jack Bradley and
Zachary Klym received Honorable Mention.
Litzenberger, a midfielder from Freeville, N.Y., had his most productive season as an Eagle. With 43 goals and 30 assists, he became the first Eastern midfielder to surpass the 200-point mark for his career. He saw his goal and assist numbers increase in each of his seasons at Eastern. Litzenberger is fifth on Eastern's career points list. His 43 goals is the eighth-highest single-season total for an Eastern player and the highest for a pure midfielder. He recorded multiple points in every game in MAC Commonwealth play. This is his third All-MAC Commonwealth First-Team Honor.
Dendall picks up his third league honor. The junior close defender from Sinking Springs, Pa. earned honorable mention in each of his first two seasons. He finished tied for the team lead in caused turnovers with 38 while often being matched up with an opponent's top right-handed attack option. His 38 CT's are tied for third in program history and only two off the program record set by Mark Cyron in 2014. In non-league games, Dendall caused five turnovers at Salisbury and pried three balls loose against Stevens Institute of Technology. He had 14 caused turnovers in Eastern's seven league matches.
Marangoni earns second-team recognition for a third-straight season as a short stick defensive specialist. A fast and physical defender, Marangoni contained dodging players and was very useful on the wings and in the clear. Over the year, he caused 19 turnovers and scooped 53 ground balls. The junior from Chambersburg moved into 17th on Eastern's career caused turnover list with 52 thefts. The only two players ahead of him who played with a short stick both earned All-America honors in their time.
Nicholas Fanelli '24 had 61 CT's as a riding attackman, and Ron Johnson '13 had 53 as an all-American SSDM.
Christopher Fanelli earns recognition from the league for the first time. Playing with younger brother Frankie, Fanelli finished the year with 66 points on 43 goals and 23 assists. He finished tied for the Division III national lead with 13 extra-man goals. He finishes his career with 163 goals and 69 assists for 232 points. He is third on Eastern's career list in both goals and points behind his older brother Nicholas and Grant Ferguson '15.
Gougler, a junior transfer from Springfield, Pa. moved onto Eastern's first midfield line and became a primary initiator on the dodge. Though he did not play on Eastern's man-up group, Gougler finished the year with 30 goals and 43 points. He also picked up 26 ground balls while doing part-time work on faceoff wings. He scored 19 goals and had six assists in Eastern's seven league games.
Bradley finished the year with 31 ground balls and six caused turnovers as a long-stick midfielder. The junior from Broomall, Pa. earns Honorable Mention for the second time.
Klym, a senior from Shamong, N.J., stepped between the pipes as a starter for the first time this year. Known to his teammates as angler, Klym finished the year with 238 stops. He posted an incredible 30-save game against Grove City and had 19 stops in an important home win over Widener late in the year.
Eastern Men's Lacrosse finished the year 9-9. Six of Eastern's nine losses came to teams ranked in the top 15 in the nation. Another loss came to a 14-7 Grove City team that is playing in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
