Puckett Earns Second MAC Commonwealth Weekly Honor

NEWTOWN, Pa.– The Middle Atlantic Conference Office today released weekly honors for the final week of regular season action this spring. Eastern junior Zach Puckett earned his second-straight MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week honor or his work in a pair of important league wins. The Eagles locked up the third seed in the upcoming MAC Commownealth Tournament with wins over Widener and Hood.

In Wednesday's 16-8 home win over Widener, the Delaware County native finished with four caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls. The Eastern's defense dominated early, and the Eagles led 9-0 before the Pride finally found a goal. In Eastern's seven league games, Puckett has 19 caused turnovers. The win over Widener all but guaranteed a spot in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament.

By the time the Eagles took the field on Sunday, they knew that they were in the Tournament. They were hosting a Hood team that had a chance to play its way into the tournament with a win. Puckett finished the Hood game, a 14-8 win, with four more caused turnovers and four ground balls. The Blazers did not score their third even strength goal until the fourth quarter. With Eastern's win, Widener claimed the final spot in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament.

Puckett has 38 caused turnovers this year and 75 for his career. Nearly as impressive, he has only 90 seconds of penalties.

The Eagles will travel to Maryland on Wednesday night to take on the second-seeded Stevenson University Mustangs in a rematch of last spring's MAC Commonwealth Championship game.
