BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Eastern University Softball jumped to an early lead and rode a dominant pitching performance from
Jania Long to a 4-0 elimination game win over Williams College. Long (15-4) allowed only three singles and did not walk a hitter in what she described as her best pitching performance.
Ainsley O'Donnell drove in a pair of runs with a two-out single in the second and was 3-for-4 on the afternoon.
O'Donnell doubled to start the game but was stranded at third to end the top of the first.
Kacie Noonan singled with one out in the second and moved to third on a double from fellow senior
Sophie Rollins. The duo came home on a two-strike single from O'Donnnell.
Noonan, starting at second base for the first time this year, drove home an important insurance run with a two out single after a pair of errors in the third.
Emily Kurth doubled to drive in
Mackenzie Laub in the fifth. That hit chased Williams starter Kate Blanch. Williams reliever Sadie Leonard came on to strike out eight in the final three innings, but Long matched the performance by letting her defense work. Leonard struck out 17 Eastern hitters in six innings of work in the two Regional games. The win was the first Eastern win without a strikeout since 2023.
Sydney Ostolaza had six assists and
Maura Yoos had five.
The Eagles (31-10) will take on the host and 18th ranked Moravian University Greyhounds at 1:30. If Eastern wins the two teams will play again tomorrow at 11:00 am.
