Softball Begins NCAA Tournament Run against Williams

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - On the heels of its second straight MAC Commonwealth Tournament Championship appearance, Eastern Softball was selected to take part in its second straight NCAA Tournament, and will begin its 2025 run at Moravian College. The Eagles will take on Williams College in the second game tomorrow. It will be the first ever meeting between the two programs.

The Eagles finished their regular and conference championship season with a 29-9 record and a 12-2 mark in MAC Commonwealth play, falling to Messiah in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament Championship game.

The Eastern Softball program has reached new heights since Head Coach Terri Adams took over in the 2020 season. Over the last five seasons, the Eagles have assembled a 114-65 record under Adams. In 2024, the Eagles had their finest season in program history, winning 30 games and its first ever MAC Commonwealth Championship, while advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time ever.

The Eastern offense has been its strength throughout the 2025 season. Behind their duo of outstanding rookies - Maura Yoos and Emily Kurth - together with a slew of sophomore and upper class talent, the Eagles are batting .339 as a team and have scored a team record 251 runs in both the regular and conference championship seasons.

Kurth was named All-MAC Commonwealth Rookie of the Year, ranking first on the Eagles with 11 doubles, and second with a .398 batting average, 45 hits, and 33 RBIs. After going hitless in her first collegiate game, Kurth went on to record a 14-game hitting streak, the longest since Ashton Tomlinson's 24-game hit streak back in 2015. Kurth recorded hits in 27 of Eastern's 38 games, and collected multiple knocks in 15 of those contests. Yoos was named to the Second Team. Starting all 38 games at one of the toughest positions in the infield, the first-year from Warrington led the Eagles with a .434 batting average and 30 runs scored. In conference play, she dominated, leading the league with a robust .615 batting average while also being tied for first with 24 hits. She also ranked second with a .667 on-base percentage and was fifth with a 1.359 OPS in conference play. Her .434 batting average ranked fourth across the entire MAC Commonwealth.

Sophomore Ainsley O'Donnell was also named to the First Team, finishing her sophomore campaign with a .366 batting average, 21 runs scored, 30 hits, six doubles, and 15 RBIs. She was first on the team in on-base percentage, drawing a team-high 18 walks and six hit by pitches. Her .505 on-base percentage was also fourth in the MAC Commonwealth. Junior Mackenzie Laub, the 2023 MAC Commonwealth Rookie of the Year, also had a strong season at the dish for the Eagles, being named to the Second team. She finished with a career-high 26 RBIs, third-most for the Eagles this season, while batting .352. She was tied for second with 29 runs scored, tied for third with 37 hits, and tied for fourth with eight doubles.

Eastern top two pitchers - sophomore Danika Barthol and senior Jania Long - were also named All-MAC Commonwealth after stout seasons in the circle. Barthol earned her second straight All-MAC First Team selection, and currently leads the team with 87 strikeouts. She is second on the team with 12 wins and a 2.24 ERA. Long had her best season in the circle as an Eagle, posting career-bests with a 2.13 ERA, 13 wins, six complete games, and a .239 opposing batting average.

The Ephs also had a strong season, finishing with a 26-12 record and a 13-5 mark in the NESCAC. Williams hit a collective .299 as a team, and were led by their outstanding senior catcher, Sydney Fleming.

Williams fell in their lone tournament game, 4-1, to Bowdoin in extra innings, but have had tournament success in three of the last five seasons. In 2024, the Ephs made it to the Super Regional round, dropping a pair of games to eventual national champion East Texas Baptist. In 2023, the Ephs made it to the regional final, losing to the No. 1 ranked Salisbury Sea Gulls, who finished as the 2023 runners-up. In 2019, Williams finished with a 39-7 record, advancing all the way the NCAA Division III World Series, where they lost to Trine and eventual national champion Texas Lutheran.

Fleming is in the midst of a career season. The Burlingame, Calif. native is hitting a team-high .392 at the dish and has a team-high 47 hits for the Ephs this season, including a remarkable 21 home runs.
