CHESTER, Pa.— Looking to improve chances fro nationals or to take a shot at program records, Eastern University Women's Track and Field competed at the Widener University Last Chance Meet.
After running five races and taking MAC Track Athlete of the Meet at the MAC Championships,
Hailey Shreffler came into today's Last Chance Qualifier at Widener with only one race on the docket. Shreffler hoped to improve her time in the 800 Meter Run to move into position to qualify for the upcoming National Championships. She did her work well. The senior Biochemistry major ran a season-best 2:09.87 to break her own program record and move into the national top 20 in the event.
In this same meet last year, Shreffler ran a 2:11.11 to drop over five seconds off her previous best in the event. Throughout this outdoor season, she ran multiple events in preparation for MAC Championships and also to build a racing base for a run at Nationals. Her time today was nearly three seconds faster than her season-best time in the event set at Johns Hopkins in late April.
While her new time puts her within current the top 22, Shreffler and her coaches will now watch results at other final qualifier meets around the country. The top 22 declared athletes will qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships which will be held from May 22-24 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
In today's meet,
Savana Dodd was the top Division III finisher in the Shot Put with a 12.78 meter toss. That mark was just off her program-record which she set at the MAC Championships last weekend.
De'Nair Drew ran a 15.27 in the 100 Meter Hurdles to move into the second spot on Eastern's career list. She now trails only Nicole Weenink in the event.
Anahrie Anderson ran another good 400 Meter race. Her 59.39 was just off her personal-best mark set last week.
