With a condensed schedule of the holiday weekend, Eastern University Men's Track and Field posted marks at two different Invitationals. With an outdoor personal best in the 800 Meters
Robert Walton paced the group at Johns Hopkins.
Foday Koroma set a program record in the Hammer Throw at Millersville.
The rest of Eastern's throwing squad joined Koroma at Millersville.
Derrick Swain hit 41.13 Meters on his second attempt at Discus. That mark, two inches shy of his program record, put him fourth in the event. He also finished fifth in the Shot Put and
Christian Marrero finished fifth in the Discus seventh in both the Shot and the Hammer. Koroma set the program record on his final toss. Koroma's toss, the first by an Eastern athlete over 120 feet is another step forward in his steady progress toward MAC Championships.
The Eastern runners and jumpers all traveled to Baltimore to race against a field with runners from all three NCAA Divisions.
Walton ran a 1:53.86 to finish sixth overall. The time, nearly a two-second improvement over his strong run last week and is just two tenths of a second off his overall collegiate best set inside on the banked track at Penn State. His time puts him right in the mix of a very competitive group in the MAC where seven runners have run sub 1:55.
The Eastern sprinters also put together solid days.
Ni'Male Greenwood and
James Ugorji both finished in the top eight in the 200 Meters. Ugorji set a PR with 22.29. Greenwood finished fifth in the 100 Meters.
Those two ran the first and last legs of a 4 x100 relay that ran just off the program record. The Eagles entered two squads in the 4 x 400 relay. Shamar Davis and
Cameron Baker teamed with Walton an Ugorji to win the race and run a program-record 3:20.62. The second group finished fifth.
Ian Hopkins won the 110 High Hurdles and
Daniel Franklin came through right on his heels for second.
Keyon Jones became the fourth Eastern runner to run the 400 Hurdles in under 58 seconds.
Keyon Jones finished third in the High Jump, and
Lawrence Day and Hopkins finished just behind him in sixth.
Elijah McCullough placed in both the Long Jump and the Triple Jump. Eric Lewis put five legal jumps over 13 meters to finish third. His season-best effort in the triple jump has him in second place in the MAC.
The Eagles have one final meet to prep for the MAC Championships which will be held at York College starting May 1.
