GALLOWAY, N.J. — Eastern University Women's Track and Field started the outdoor season with a solid day at the Stockton Invitational
Savana Dodd set a new program record in the shot put and
Am'yra Johnson won the 100 Meter Hurdles.
Following a long indoor season, the goal for the day was to refocus for the outdoor season. Even with several key competitors resting or doing limited events, the Eagles had a successful day.
Kayla Jefferson and
Diamond Dixon each finished in the top eight in the 100 Meter dash. Following up her great performance at the Indoor MAC Championships,
Anahrie Anderson ran a strong season-opening 1:01.34 in the 400 Meters to finish fourth.
With
Hailey Shreffler off,
Gisella Croge ran a rally crisp 2:24.29 800 meters to start her season. Croge was part of the group that earned All_Region honors in the Distance Medley inside.
Julia Wade finished third in the 1500 Meters.
Johnson not only won the 100 Meter hurdles, the first-year from New Iberia, La. Also ran a solid long hurdle race. She finished fourth ahead of Anderson, who finished eighth.
Dodd broke her own record in the Shot Put by nearly a meter. She threw 12.08 Meters to win the event.
Emma Kline,
Megan Keating, and Luisa Chaqua also competed in the event as part of a rapidly improving throws group that is mirroring the growth on the men's side.
Kline finished tenth the Hammer and Dod was tenth in the Discus. Unlike Shot, those two events do not have a direct match inside and will likely take some time for adjustment. Similarly, Juanita Hernandez Albino and
Rebecca Belford had solid, but not spectacular days in their first competitions in the Javelin. Hernandez-Albino will need to add the Javelin to her repertoire to compete in the Heptathlon outside.
Eastern will compete at the Danny Curran Invitational at Widener University next weekend.
