Box Score 2 GRANTHAM, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Volleyball (12-6, 0-1) entered today's MAC Oopener at Messiah University on a four-match winning streaking. The Eagles dropped a tough four-set decision to the host and ninth-ranked Falcons in the opening match before earning a decisive four-set win over Randolph College in their second match of the day.
Kaodi Wokocha had 24 kills in the two matches to lead the Eagles.
After dropping the opening set 25-16, the Eagles hit an impressive .346 in the second set to earn a 25-23 win and level the match at a set apiece. The Falcons (14-1,1-0), who hit .423 in the set, led 22-20 late. Wokocha delivered a kill for a sideout and then went back to serve. Connor Tucholski put the Eagles up with a kill from
Ronan Landis. The two teams then traded service errors before Tucholski delivered a final kill wth
Colby Arvesen serving. Wokocha put away all six of his swings and had a solo block in the set.
Max Bagileo put away three balls on five attacks.
The big Messiah block came back to life in the third set as the Eagles managed only eight kills in falling 25-14. The Eagles were tied at 21 in the fourth set before consecutive points on blocks put the Falcons in a spot where they could side out to win. A serve off the tape ended the match for the hosts.
Landis finished the match with 18 assists. Wokocha finished with 13 kills, two aces and two blocks, and Bagileo had eight kills and hit .438.
Symir Byrd did not have a reception error in 42 chances Alex Kagoro and Ryan Givens led Messiah with 14 kills.
Tucholski hit .480 with 13 kills in the four-set win over Randolph. Wokocha chipped in with 11 kills.
After cruising to dominant 25-14 and 25-16 wins in the opening two sets, the Eagles scuffled to a 25-20 loss in the third set before running away with a 25-15 win in the fourth. Landis started that set off with a quick three points on serve.
Shamel Smith led the Wildcats (6-8) with ten kills.
The Eagles are at King's College for another MAC Contest on Thursday.
