ST. DAVIDS, Pa.— Eastern University Men's Volleyball (14-13, 4-3) hit .362 as a team and picked up a critical three-set win over the King's College Monarchs and all-but clinch a spot in the upcoming MAC Men's Volleyball Tournament.
Kaodi Wokocha finished with a match-best 14 kills and
Colby Arvesen added 12 as the Eagles won a fourth MAC contest for the first time since the league went to single-round-robin play.
Though the Eagles controlled the action from the outset, the Monarchs (10-14, 2-4) erased a lead in the opening set with a five-point run for a 21-20 lead. King's had two set points in the opening frame. Arvesen delivered a kill for a sideout to close the gap to 24-23, and
Edwin Broussard served the Eagles to a 24-24 tie. A
Kino Tuitupou kill gave the Eagles a set point, and Broussard ended it with an ace. Tuitupuo had four kills on seven swings in the first.
Wokocha had five kills, and
Josh Hrabosky had 13 of his 40 assists in the first set.
Though the Eagles led early int he second, the lead never grew to more than three as both teams were able to sideout at more than 60 percent. Arvesen had seven kills on nine swings and
Connor Tucholski had four kills on seven attacks as the Eagles hit .469 on the way to a 25-22 win. The Monarchs had their best attacking set with 17 kills on 33 swings, but the Eastern offense was just a little better.
The Eagles continued to find the floor in taking the third set 25-20. Wokocha had four kills to lead a balanced attack. The Eagles secured the final point on a kill from
Kadin Kolstad after the Monarchs sent an Eastern attack back.
The Eagles will host Stevenson on Wednesday. The Mustangs will play Stevens today and King's tomorrow.
