Men's Volleyball Takes Stevenson to the Limit in Home Finale

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.— In a match with post-season ramifications for both teams, Eastern University Men's Volleyball took the visiting Stevenson University Mustangs to the limit before falling in five sets. The Eagles, who needed to win in three to secure a home match in the upcoming MAC Tournament, won the first set 25-17 but saw their hopes of hosting fall as the Mustangs claimed the second set by the same score. With the Mustangs still having to a play a match against Hood, Stevenson holds the inside track on the three seed in the tournament. The Eagles will most likely open their tournament run at Misericordia.

Eastern (14-14, 4-4) won the first and fourth sets, but the Mustangs hit .524 with 13 kills to claim a 15-12 win in the final set. The Eagles hit a very solid .363 in the last, but the Mustangs (15-10, 5-2) had a run of three-straight servers score points in the middle of the set, and despite closing the gap to 13-12, the Eagles were not able to gain ground.

Down 2-1 in the match, the Eagles put together a great stretch of volleyball in the fourth. Ronan Landis moved the ball around, and four hitters had multiple kills in earning a 25-22 win to force a fifth set. Edwin Broussard had three kills and two blocks in the fourth. Eastern's first-year middle finished the match with 10 kills, three aces, and seven blocks while hitting .444.

Colby Arvesen had 17 kills and four blocks and Kaodi Wokocha had ten kills, 12 digs, and was 21-for-21 in serve receive. The Eastern passers allowed only three aces in 103 attempts.

The post-season appearance is a program-first and is a big step forward for a young program with no seniors in its regular rotation. This was the first time an Eastern team had taken a set off a Stevenson team.

Post-season details will be posted on the schedule page as soon as they are official.
