HAVERFORD, Pa. - Eastern Track and Field put together another strong weekend of competition at the Seamus McElligott Invitational hosted by Haverford College. First-year hurdler
Ian Hopkins broke the school record in the 60m Hurdles, six individuals and one relay team cracked the top-10 program list, and 17 Eagles recorded top-eight finishes over the course of the weekend.
Hopkins, who hails from Fanwood, N.J., become the new No. 1 runner in the 60m Hurdles with a time of 8.43. He passed former hurdler
Jean-Michelet Andre, who ran 8.61 at the 2020 MAC Indoor Championships. Hopkins also placed fourth in the High Jump with a leap of 1.75m. Also in the 60m Hurdles, sophomore
Daniel Franklin finished in second (8.84),
Fritz Clement placed fourth (9.31), and
Lawrence Day came away with a sixth place finish (9.44). In the High Jump,
Keyon Jones continued his strong first season with a second place finish (1.85), and Day climbed to 10th all-time in the event with a jump of 1.80m.
The Eagles had three top-eight finishes in the 60m.
Ni'Male Greenwood finished first at 6.95,
James Ugorji, running in his second 60m in his collegiate career, placed fourth at 7.18, and
Austin Boddie came in 7th at 7.33. Ugorji continued his solid day in the 200m with a second place finish at 23.44. His PR finish in the event was good for sixth all-time, putting him in a tie with sophomore teammate
Zachary Howard. Greenwood finished in fourth at 23.53.
In the 3000m,
Ryle Mellinger placed first with a time of 8:58.12, good for fifth in program history, and
Elijah McCullough finished first in the Long Jump at 6.39m, putting him at 10th for the event. In the 400m,
Robert Walton and
Kojo Cunningham finished in fourth (53.28) and eighth (54.70), respectively, and in the Triple Jump,
Jeric Lewis (13.24m) and McCullough (13.03m) finished fourth and fifth. Lewis' distance of 13.24m is also good for 10th in program history.
In the 4x200m Relay, Ugorji, Franklin, Howard, and Greenwood finished second with a time of 1:32.90, just under the team's record breaking time of 1:32.78 they set back at last year's MAC Championships. Finally, in the Shot Put,
Derrick Swain finished sixth at 13.01m, while
Christian Marrero finished in eighth with a throw of 12.85m. Marrero now sits second in program history under Swain.
Eastern will be back in action next weekend at the Blue and White Invitational.
