LANCASTER, Pa. - On Saturday, Eastern Men's Track and Field put forth an excellent showing at the Coach I Invitational hosted by Franklin & Marshall.
Derrick Swain shattered his own record in the Shot Put, four other Eagles cracked the top-10 list across two events. Eleven Eastern athletes recorded personal-best finishes.
Swain set the record at the school record at 12.63m at the Diplomat Open back on Dec. 6. He tossed it nearly one full meter farther on Saturday. The first-year finished fourth with a throw of 13.60m. Fellow first-year
Christian Marrero moved into third on the all-time with a PR throw of 11.86, and sophomore
Foday Koroma climbed to eighth with a throw of 11.07m, also a career-best.
In the weight throw, first-year Nick Bensavage also recorded a PR, finishing with a throw of 12.41m. Bensavage continues to sit at second on the all-time list after Koroma, who threw 12.50m last week at Alvernia.
Continuing in the field, first-year
Keyon Jones placed second in the High Jump, clearing at 1.82m, while sophomore
Donovan Skinner recorded a new PR in the Long Jump with a distance of 5.73m.
Jeric Lewis also had a career-best performance in the Triple Jump, finishing second with a distance of 13.01m.
In his first crack at the 60m at the collegiate level, sophomore
James Ugorji shined. He ran a 7.16 to qualify for the finals, and went on to finish seventh with a time of 7.19. His 7.16 in the prelims was good for fourth all-time in program history under
Ni'Male Greenwood, who owns the top two times, and
Chandler Koehler. Fellow sophomore
Austin Boddie continued the PR train for Eastern, clocking in at 7.29. That is good for the ninth-fastest time in program history. Lewis recorded his second PR of the day in the event as well, finishing in 7.47.
Ugorji collected his second PR of the afternoon in the 400m, crossing the finish line in 52.92.
Tyler Long recorded a career-best performance in the 800m with a time of 2:05.42, and
Matthew Schilling finished the mile in 4:59.02, also a career-best.
Eastern Track and Field will be back in action next weekend at the two-day Seamus McElligott Invitational hosted by Haverford College.
