PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - In its first of two events this weekend, Eastern Women's Track and field competed in the Widener DIII Invitational on Friday evening at the Ott Center on the campus of Penn University. Senior
Hailey Shreffler collected a NCAA Top-30 and personal best in the Mile, along with a top-eight finish in the 800m, and five other recorded personal records across two events.
Shreffler continued her strong senior campaign, setting a new career-best in the Mile. The Nesquehoning native placed third in the event with a time of 5:07.90. Additionally, her time was good for 29th in all of Division III Track and Field. Shreffler also finished in seventh in the 800m with a time of 2:22.91, and first-year
Gisella Croge recorded a personal best in the event with a time of 2:28.25.
Along with Shreffler, first-year
Julia Wade and
Erica Lewis also recorded personal bests in the Mile, finishing in 5:45.13 and 5:56.74, respectively. In the final event of the evening for Eastern, fellow first-years
Chelsea Kipnis and
Kayleigh Newsome ran career-best time in the 3000m. Kipnis finished in 11:56.17, while Newsome crossed the finish line in 12:17.97.
Other members of the Eastern Women's Track and Field squad will compete on Saturday in the Coach I Invitational on Saturday. Events are set to begin at 9:30 am.
